This program examines the impact of domestic violence on children. In California, one in four youngsters is directly exposed to violence as either a victim or witness, leaving them more susceptible to difficulties in school, developmental problems, aggressive behavior, and suicide attempts. The Children Next Door explores programs aimed at helping children overcome the dreadful effects of violence. California Attorney General Bill Lockyer talks about a groundbreaking program, Safe from the Start, geared toward meeting the needs of children exposed to violence. A family from Sacramento's WEAVE talks about recovering from a life of violence. Counseling and support are helping them step out of the cycle of violence. And, the story of a South Land Park family devastated by violence nine years ago is told.
